About

The Legacy

The Boys Camp Dining Hall has been host to tens of thousands of young people over the past 70 years who have encountered God there and been changed by his love. During that time it has been the backdrop to countless moments that will forever carry on its legacy. It is also showing its age. The dining hall has structural problems making it unsuitable for long term usage. Although we have ensured the building’s structural safety, the need to build a new dining hall is urgent.

Our Vision

The need for young men to encounter Jesus Christ and to have active discipleship is greater than ever. The boys’ camp dining hall is a place that has the potential for that to happen in such significant ways. We want to see a new building that will be host to more young people and more stories of God at work for years to come.

This new Dining Hall will increase the number of campers we are able to accommodate and will also be accessible for campers with exceptionalities. It will meet the current building code requirements with upgraded electrical systems and also proper co-ed and accessible bathrooms. The kitchen will be modern and efficient for food preparation, service and clean up. It is also being designed with optimal functionality in mind to ensure that the space is used well for the Dining Hall’s many purposes.

The new Boys Camp dining hall will expand capacity while still echoing the beauty of its history.
The new dining hall is designed to host meals as well as programmatic events in a single day.
This elevation view of the dining hall shows how it nestles into the natural landscape.

The current limitations Include:

1. Age: Built in 1953, it shows significant wear and tear from thousands of boys.
2. Size: Thing dining area is too small, seating only 170 while we have beds for 275. The kitchen is poorly laid out for efficient food preparation and service.
3. Structure: The roof leaks and the floor heaves. The building is underserviced for electrical systems.
4. Accessibility: It is not easily accessible for special needs campers.
5. Bathrooms: These are too small and do not accommodate co-ed staff and programming. We run our end of season teen camp on this site, so need co-ed bathrooms.

Improvements:

The building will occupy the same footprint and retain the much-loved feel of the current dining room. Improvements include:

1. More space for more campers
2. Four entrances and excellent accessibility
3. A covered veranda
4. Modern and efficient kitchen
5. Girls’ and boys’ bathrooms
6. More functionality for program

“The dining hall was the place for bible study and worship. The dining hall was the place where we would play games. The dining hall was the place for meals… The dining hall is the hub of camp and in many ways was the lens in which you would experience camp… It is the focal point of much of our programming.”
