James’s Story
“When I try to characterize my favourite memories from the Boys’ Camp Dining Hall, the word ‘antics’ comes to mind. The creative minds of past Program Teams have taken the Dining Hall’s potential as a vast, open space with some tables and benches, and turned it into the site of camp’s craziest shenanigans. Images of these from when I first started as a camper are now seared into my memory. I’ve borne witness to bikes and motorcycles ridden through the aisles, meals eaten in the rafters, stunts of rappelling from the ceiling, interpretive dances, haircuts and waxing, diving catches, and even the wielding of a live chainsaw. Now, a decade later, I’m a part of the very Program Team that I loved as a camper, and I’ve done my best to replicate this tomfoolery. I’ve built a castle on the stage, taped a counselor to a table, and played saxophone whilst being towed on a wagon. To me, this has been carrying on the tradition of using the Dining Hall for what it is meant for (other than feeding people, I suppose). Now I’m looking to the future and what kind of opportunities the space of the new Dining Hall would afford. But I’m hoping that before that time comes, I’ll pull off a few more good antics in the old one.”
