Zach’s Story
“When describing his experiences with the Boys Camp Dining Hall, the one and only Larry Offner used the word “Transformational”. Personally, I don’t think he could have said it better. My experiences in the dining hall have become a core foundation in who I am and I can’t express how thankful I am for the time I’ve spent there. It was my final summer as a Boys Camp staff and the final week of the summer had arrived. It was the leadership team’s daily morning meeting and by that point of the summer I assure you, a lot of coffee was being consumed. Little did we know these meetings were about to change. For the next week, after our morning devotions and prayer we would spend some time taking turns building each other up and talking about what each of us had been doing well over the summer. While it may just sound like us giving each other compliments on our beards or our Frisbee golf skills, it really was more meaningful than that. We all obviously looked forward to hearing what people had to say about us, but I think what got us all really excited about coming to morning meeting that week was the opportunity. During this time together, there wasn’t much else on our minds. We got to voice aspects of each other that each of us may not have realized before. For me, what was said to me gave me confidence in areas where I felt inadequate. And to all those who were at that table, I can’t thank you enough for what that whole experience and what your friendships has done for me. This is what the Boys Camp dining hall has provided to so many people over the years. The opportunity to feel completely comfortable, open and vulnerable telling the people around us how important they are! We are all Gods masterpiece! One thing that dining hall taught me, why not let them know? Who knows, however little one compliment may seem, it could have a big impact.”
